Power fully restored after Winter Storm Benji

Restoration work in the Pine Belt following Winter Storm Benji.

Power has been fully restored to all Mississippi Power customers who have been affected by Winter Storm Benji.

A 52-person crew from Gulf Power and a 19-person team from PowerSecure helped company crews from all divisions safely and efficiently restore power to approximately 23,500 customers since 7 a.m. on Friday.

“This turned out to be a bigger storm than was forecast, but our team did a great job of reacting to the ever-changing conditions,” said President and CEO Anthony Wilson. “Our crews were working in some very difficult conditions and along hazardous roads, but we were able to work safely to get the lights back on as quickly as possible.”

Storm crews began working at daybreak on Friday and into the evening, then returned Saturday morning to bring remaining customers back on line.

“Thank you to the teams from Gulf Power and PowerSecure as well as some of our contractors, who came to assist us in this uncommon winter storm for our region,” said Vice President of the Customer Services Organization Nicole Faulk.
