Meridian Division Manager Eddie Kelly delivered the commencement address to the 2017 fall graduates at the Mississippi State University-Meridian campus ceremony Thursday morning.
Kelly’s remarks focused on three areas he believes have helped him lead a successful life – his parents and their support of education, leadership traits learned in the military and honed at Mississippi Power, and the value of customer service.
“If I were to characterize the leadership traits I developed while in the military, that are still important to my success, the list would include preparation and continual learning, flexibility and adaptability in the face of change, resiliency and emotional intelligence,” Kelly said.
More than 70 students graduated from MSU-Meridian this semester. Mississippi State University President Dr. Mark Keenum, a member of the Mississippi Power Board of Directors, attended the ceremony.
Kelly also shared some tips on successfully knowing and serving your targeted audience, no matter the field you decide to enter.
“I tell my customer service professionals all the time that we’re not just in the business of selling electricity,” Kelly said. “We’re in the people business. We should focus on meeting the needs of our customers and create an environment where they will want to do business with us.”
