The Meridian Minority Business Alliance.

They share ideas, network and work on keeping the local economy healthy.

Those are just a few reasons why Meridian Division Manager Eddie Kelly and Meridian External Affairs Manager Annie McMillian are involved with the Meridian Minority Business Alliance.

“After some discussion, we noticed that the minority business sector in our area was under-represented,” said Kelly. “So we began to look at ways to fix the problem by forming a business alliance. The goal is to build coalition and establish a great working relationship among minority business owners that enables them to grow and sustain their respective businesses.”

The Minority Business Alliance is a program started under the umbrella of the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation. The organization’s structure is specific, with committees locked in on tackling issues concerning workforce development, area partnerships, and nurturing personal and professional relationships.

However, the group’s monthly meetings are usually a combination of education and business-after-hours type events held to foster a more relaxed atmosphere.

“I think it’s beneficial to host a diverse program of structured information, as well as those on a more relaxed platform because people will have options to determine what best fits their needs. In the meetings, I think they come in to gather information. It’s more structured and allows for information sharing and strategic planning,” said Angelique Adams, Chair of the Meridian Minority Business Alliance.
