Jackson, Miss. – Tougaloo College announced today the establishment of the Mississippi Power Heritage Scholarship, to be awarded by Mississippi Power to students seeking a STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics), business, law, economics or accounting degree.

The Mississippi Power Heritage Scholarship will award $2,000 to five qualifying students for the 2016-2017 academic year and can be used to pay tuition, fees, books or room and board.

“We are excited to partner with Mississippi Power and provide scholarships to the next generation of Mississippi engineers and scientists,” Tougaloo College President Dr. Beverly Hogan said. “This commitment is recognition of the academic excellence exhibited by these scholars as they continue their educational journey.”

“Tougaloo College has been educating Mississippians and preparing them to lead successful lives for nearly 150 years,” Mississippi Power Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Moses Feagin said. “We are honored to join the tradition Tougaloo started in 1869 and help support these students in their pursuit of a college degree.”

Candidates who are selected for the Mississippi Power Heritage Scholarship must:

  • Maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Seek degrees in STEM related programs; science, technology, engineering, mathematics and/or other business related programs; business, law, economics or accounting.
