Storm crews off to Alabama

Less than two weeks after assisting Oncor in its restoration efforts, Mississippi Power crews are once again being called on to aid a neighboring utility after severe weather disrupted service to tens of thousands of customers.

Approximately 50 linemen and support personnel departed from the Pine Belt and Meridian divisions after receiving a call from Alabama Power, who saw more than 115,000 customers lose electricity overnight Monday.

The Mississippi Power crews are headed to the Jasper, Ala., area, where nearly 10,000 customers were still without power as of 6 a.m. Tuesday.

At 7 p.m. Monday night, Mississippi Power saw its peak outages due to the severe weather and lightning, with more than 1,400 customers without service. Mississippi Power crews worked safely throughout the night to restore service, with scattered outages remaining Tuesday morning.
