On April 5, the Harrison County Beautification Commission will host the 19th annual “Bring It!” event at Plant Watson in Gulfport. Since 1995, nearly 400 tons of household debris has been collected at this event. Interested volunteers should contact Michael Metz at Plant Watson.
A pair of cleanup events will take place in the Pine Belt on April 12. Forrest and Lamar Counties are hosting the “Right Way to Throw Away Day.” Items will be collected at the Lamar County Multi-Purpose Center and the Bobby L. Chain Airport. Jerry McBeth is coordinating these volunteer efforts.
On the final Saturday of April, the 11th annual Jackson County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place in the parking lot of the Singing River Mall in Gautier. Richard Semmes at Plant Daniel is the volunteer coordinator for this event.
“These collection events provide an opportunity for our customers and other residents in the counties we serve to get rid of their household hazardous waste free of charge,” said Mark Loughman, Environmental Affairs director. “I encourage all employees to volunteer and help us protect our environment.”
Household hazardous waste collection events are scheduled for Meridian on May 2 and in Hancock County in the summer. Details are still being finalized on those events.
